Vaporwave
neon retro-futurism
A marble bust dissolving into pink static while a sun sets over an endless chrome grid that never quite reaches the horizon.
Vaporwave is nostalgia for a future that never arrived - a dreamlike remix of 1980s mall culture, early computer graphics and elevator-music melancholy. It takes the discarded imagery of a digital age, the screensavers and statues and sunset posters, and bathes it all in a wistful, half-ironic glow.
The palette glows with hot magenta, electric cyan and lilac haze against deep midnight purple, the colors of a neon sign reflected in a wet parking lot. Surfaces are glossy and synthetic: chrome wireframes, CRT scanlines, marble busts and gridded horizons stretching into infinity.
Names that land here feel sleek and slightly synthetic, with a retro-digital shimmer - short, glitchy, neon-bright syllables that could flicker across a screen at two in the morning, equal parts futuristic and faded.
